Local author lands national print book deal and launches at Mary Ryan’s
After achieving success with her first three sexy romance novels published as ebooks, Jennifer St George has landed a national print deal with her publisher, Penguin’s Destiny Romance.
She’ll kick-off the national distribution of her book Sweet Seduction with a launch hosted by Mary Ryan’s Byron Bay on 6pm, December 5 where comedian Mandy Nolan will quiz Ms St George about all things romance.
Sweet Seduction features Ms St George’s first two stories – The Convenient Bride and Seducing the Secret Heiress. “It is such a thrill to see my novel sitting on the shelf, especially as it sits alongside romance writing icons such as Stephanie Myer and Nora Roberts,” says Ms St George.
Mary Ryan’s owner, John Mitchell, a strong supporter of local writing talent, says romance is a hugely popular genre. “Even through the GFC, romance sales continued to be strong. Dedicated readers of the genre can read two or three books a week. Many people don’t realise romance is worth billions to the global publishing industry.”
The Convenient Bride, inspired by Ms St George’s trip to Venice a few years ago, won the prestigious Clendon Award, the top New Zealand romance writing award. The book also came second in the Emerald Award, Australia’s premium unpublished romance writing award.
Seducing the Secret Heiress was inspired by St George’s real life experience of appearing on a reality TV show. “I was part of the Australian version of Dragon’s Den broadcast by the Seven Network a few years ago. Being filmed under harsh spotlights was very nerve-wracking. I hope incorporating that experience into the book gives the story authenticity.”
Destiny Romance Editor, Carol George says publishing Ms St George’s gorgeous books has been a great joy. “Jennifer writes with wit, charm and skill, breathing life into her characters and concocting modern love stories that are hugely entertaining.”
St George says holding the launch at Mary Ryan’s will be a homecoming for her characters. “I spent months enjoying Mary Ryan’s superb food, coffee and ambience while writing both stories.”
“We love seeing the community supporting our local writing talent,” says Mitchell. “We encourage everyone to come and enjoy some of our hospitality, Mandy Nolan’s wit and chat with one of our newest local authors.”
